‘So Far Away’ is the latest single from Tiny Dyno. Coming together through the Bristol music scene, Emily Gardiner and Tom Kuras began Tiny Dyno during lockdown 2020. The duo discovered a unique connection, combining the infectious tones of indie pop with an underlying sense of anxiety. ‘So Far Away’ beautifully demonstrates this, combining Kuras’ incredible ear for lo-Fi synth pop with a haunting and powerful lead vocal from Gardiner.

Channelling the sounds of 70s rock, synth pop and electronica, ‘So Far Away’ marries pounding rhythm and yearning melodies over a sea of swirling synthesisers. Gardiner sets the tone from her first line ‘now this feels so old, such a time ago’, “The song was all about the combination of different textures and worlds” remarks the track’s producer and guitarist Tom Kuras “I feel the song is tense and anxious whilst being triumphant and anthemic”.

The song builds with the addition of jangling percussion and shimmering synth lines. The cascading wave of pounding beats and squealing guitar harmonies come crashing down to Gardiner’s declaration ‘there’s an angel on my shoulder, but I don’t do what I ought to’. The tension builds to a pummelling drum fill before the climatic final chorus.

Mixed by Robot Club (Massive Attack, Nick Cave, Tom Waits) and mastered by Rik Dowding (Portishead, The Horrors, Primal Scream, The XX) the diverse collection of sounds on ‘So Far Away’ offer a glimpse of what can be expected from their forthcoming EP.
